Darrion Trammell scored a game-high 16 points, as the Redhawks (5-4) won for the second-straight time and picked up their first-ever win over C of I.
"Tonight was yet another great 40 minutes for us to learn about our team," said C of I head coach
Colby Blaine. "We showed fantastic toughness and continue to improve in areas we see a need in. I am beyond proud of our team for taking on this difficult challenge and coming out better for it."
The Yotes (1-5) played even throughout the majority of the first half – taking an early 4-0 lead on baskets from
Jake O'Neil and
Connor Desaulniers – while pushing the margin to 10-6 after consecutive 3-pointers from
Jalen Galloway.
Riley Grigsby rallied Seattle U, scoring 11 first half points, as the hosts built a 26-23 lead – before a 10-0 run, capped by a Trammell 3-point play, gave the Redhawks a 36-26 halftime edge.
The hosts clamped down defensively in the second half, holding C of I to just one made field goal over the first eight minutes of the period – extending the lead to 50-30. The Yotes got five quick points from
Johnny Radford and a Galloway bucket to pull within 52-37, but Seattle U scored the next 10 points to put the game away.
"In the end, it's difficult to score over their length," said Blaine. "We have to find ways to stay consistent offensively for 40 minutes. As we continue to develop roles and our team identity, I fully expect us to make a strong run in the second half of the season."
Grigsby had 15 points in the win, with post Emeka Udenyi posted 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Galloway led the Yotes with 13 points and eight rebounds, with
Paul Wilson coming off the bench to score eight points and seven rebounds.
C of I will be off for the Christmas Break, before opening their home schedule on New Years' Day, hosting William Jessup.
