COYOTES IN PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL: Two former C of I players are currently playing professionally in Minor League Baseball – both off to outstanding starts.
Riley O'Brien, a member of the 2016 and 2017 teams that advanced to the Opening Round of the NAIA Championships, is in his third season in the Tampa Bay Rays organization and was the Opening Day starter for the Charlotte Stone Crabs, their Advanced-A Florida State League affiliate. O'Brien is currently 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA in four starts, striking out 23 men in 23 innings, while holding batters to a .169 average. He has a career 10-4 record and a 2.54 ERA in 40 professional appearances.
Zach Draper, also a member of the NAIA Tournament teams, is in his third season in the Cleveland Indians organization and has started 2019 with the Lake County Captains, their Class-A Midwest League affiliate. Draper has made four appearances, posting a 0-0 record with a 0.77 ERA in 11.2 innings, logging seven strikeouts. He has a 9-6 career mark with a 2.98 ERA in 38 professional appearances.
