Pinckney Named CCC Defensive Player of the Year

LA GRANDE, Ore. – For the third-straight season, a College of Idaho men's basketball player has earned Cascade Conference Defensive Player of the Year, as Talon Pinckney was honored today by the league as the All-CCC honors were released by the CCC office.

The junior, from Boise, joins Aziz Leeks (2018), Emanuel Morgan (2017), Sydney Donaldson (2014), Bryan Champ (2007, 2008) and Joe Green (2005) as C of I recipients of the award – given to the top defensive player in the league.

Pinckney, who was also named an All-CCC selection, leads the league with 78 steals and ranks second in the circuit in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). The point-guard has averaged 11.2 points and 5.0 assists a game – and needs just 26 points to become the 27th C of I player to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career.

Senior Keun Palu-Thompson joins Pinckney on the All-CCC team after an outstanding 2018-19 regulars-season. The Tacoma, Wash., native averaged nearly 12 points and five rebounds per game in CCC play and has added 30 steals.

Two Yotes – Gibson Berryhill and Nate Bruneel – were named honorable mention selections. Berryhill, a senior from Boise, leads C of I with 82 made 3-pointers and averages 11 points a night off the bench, while Bruneel, a junior from Meridian, is C of I's top scorer, averaging 12.7 points and 5.0 rebounds a game, connecting on 43-percent of his 3-point attempts.

Oregon Tech guard Mitchell Fink was honored as CCC Player of the Year; Justin Parnell of OIT was named Coach of the Year; and Justin Martin of Multnomah was named Newcomer of the Year.
