KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The College of Idaho held a 13-10 edge in total shots - including seven on frame - but Oregon Tech took advantage of their opportunities to defeat the Coyotes, 2-0, in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams at the OIT Soccer Field.
The Yotes (1-1-1, 0-1 CCC) had three quality chances in the first 15 minutes of the match - as
Jack O'Leary and
Cole Fuller were stopped by OIT keeper Gerardo Skewes, while a free kick by
Bekir Cinac from just outside the 18 clipped the wall.
OIT (3-1-1, 1-0) took the lead in the 24th minute, when Lodewijk Bloemzaad slotted home a cross from Anthony Santillan into the right corner of the net. The Yotes nearly answered just three minutes later, but a Cinac shot was saved off the goal line by the Owls defense.
Tech added an insurance goal in the 61st minute, as a foul in the box set up a Joey Driessen penalty kick and a 2-0 lead.
Skewes made five saves in the clean sheet for the Owls, with Cinac taking a match-high six shots for the Yotes.
C of I takes tomorrow off in preparation for a Sunday match-up at Southern Oregon.
