Dylan Haas opened the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, with a national qualifying mark and personal best time and
Marcos Cervantes capped the evening with a national mark and PR, as the College of Idaho sits in fifth place after Day 1 at Kennison Field.
C of I recorded 43 team points through 11 events – trailing Eastern Oregon (106), Southern Oregon (95), Oregon Tech (79.5) and Corban (51).
Haas chopped 16 seconds off his previous best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 9:28.49 – placing fourth with an NAIA "B" qualifying mark.
Under the lights, Cervantes used a big push over the final four laps of the 10,000-meters, placing second overall with a national "B" cut with his time of 31:28.22.
Elsewhere on the track, the 4x100-meter relay team placed fourth overall (44.76);
Brooks Ney took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.67);
Jerry Celestino placed sixth in the 10,000-meters (32:52.72);
Andrew Sutton placed seventh in the 10,000-meters (32:59.83); with
Alex Martin eighth in the 1,500-meters (3:58.67).
In the field events,
Josh Brown picked up a pair of sixth-place finishes – recording a mark of 14.07 meters in the shot put and 43.80 meters in the hammer throw, while
Caleb Brown placed fifth in the high jump (1.87 meters).
Day 2 begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. with a Special Olympics race, with field events starting at 11 a.m. and track events at 2 p.m.
