KEIZER, Ore. –
Miles Bigelow tossed a complete game five-hitter in his final collegiate start and the College of Idaho pounded out 14 hits to claim an 8-1 victory over Corban University in the first of two games at Volcanoes Stadium.
The host Warriors (26-21, 15-13) rebounded for an 11-1 victory in Game 2.
Bigelow was dominant, allowing just four singles and a fifth inning Josh Ebert RBI triple on the afternoon – but the Coyotes (12-36, 5-27) offense had already built a 7-0 lead.
C of I opened the scoring in the fourth, loading the bases with one out, with
Jake Bowman driving home a pair with a single and
Nate Hundley adding an RBI knock of his own. An inning later,
Dylan Mansanarez roped a two-run double, followed by a RBI double from
Ryan Murkle and an RBI single from Bowman to give the visitors a 7-run lead.
Austin Van Horne capped the scoring with a sixth inning solo homer.
Carter Vieira went a perfect 5-for-5, with Bowman and Van Horne both going 2-for-3 and Murkle adding a pair of hits. The 14 hits by the Yotes equaled a season best in NAIA West play.
Game 2 was close early – as Corban scored an unearned run in the first – with C of I answering with a two-out Van Horne RBI single in the third.
The deadlock was snapped in the sixth, as the Warriors sent 10 batters to the plate – taking advantage of three C of I errors – with five of the six runs in the inning unearned. Corban added two runs in the seventh and a Maxwell Jeffrey RBI single in the eighth ending the contest.
Caleb Henry limited C of I to just three hits in the Game 2 win, with the Warriors offense recording 15 hits.
