Lady Yotes Win CCC Series at No. 3 Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. – Marissa Maddox had three hits and a triple, with Taylor Eakle slugging her third homer of the season, the College of Idaho claimed the rubber game of the Cascade Conference series with No. 3-ranked Southern Oregon, winning the counter, 8-4, at University Field.

The Raiders (15-7, 1-2 CCC) got one back in the non-league finale, 10-7, as freshman Hannah Shimek hit a key three-run double and totaled four RBI.

Coyote pitcher Colette Robert threw her second complete game in as many days in Game 1, working around 10 hits, two walks and four Yotes errors to allow just two earned runs – picking up her eighth win.

The Yotes (11-4, 2-1) scored three in the second to go ahead and two more in the third, totaling 12 hits against four Raider pitchers. Martha Tooley slugged a pair of doubles with a run and an RBI.

In Game 2, SOU loaded the bases with one out in the first and capitalized when Rebecca Velasquez hit an RBI single to left and Karlee Coughlin lined a two-run single to left-center. Leading 3-1 in the third, Harlee Donovan started the inning with a hit up the middle and Katrina Winterburn and Velasquez followed with infield singles to load the bases again with nobody out. Two batters later, Shimek cleared them with a deep drive to right.

Morgan Jones got the win with 4 2/3 innings of relief work, allowing four earned runs. The Yotes cut into a 9-2 deficit with a five-spot in the sixth – including a Trystin Crofts two-run double, but Gabby Sandoval entered to get the last five outs – including three by strikeout – to earn her second save.

Shimek and Taelor Mayben had two hits and a run scored apiece in the contest. Velasquez went 4-for-7 on the day, and Donovan finished the series 4-for-9 with two doubles, a triple, four intentional walks and four runs scored. In three starts during the series, Winterburn went 5-for-9 with two doubles, four runs and two walks.

Crofts was 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a two-run double in the sixth, during a spot start at shortstop in the finale. Jordan Maddox and Kylie Smith totaled six hits apiece in the series.

The Lady Yotes return home this weekend, hosting Oregon Tech in a four-game series.
