LEWISTON, Idaho -
Dominic Conigliaro and
Hunter Boyd held the top offense in the NAIA West Grouping in check for most of the day, but Lewis-Clark State pitching proved to be the difference, as the Warriors completed a four-game sweep of the College of Idaho with 4-2 and 3-2 wins at Harris Field.
L-C (18-5, 7-1 NAIA West) broke a 1-1 tie with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings of Game 1 and rallied from a 2-0 deficit in Game 2 to earn victories.
Conigliaro struck out a career-high nine batters in seven innings of work and added a third inning RBI single to pull the Yotes (9-18, 2-9) even against the sixth-ranked team in the NAIA. However, Cory Voss led off the fifth with his fifth home run of the season to give the hosts the lead for good.
C of I had a chance to tie the game in the ninth, plating a run on a
Weston Miller grounder that was booted by the L-C defense - but Gage Burland stranded the tying runners on base to earn the save.
Boyd was dominant in the nightcap - allowing just one hit through the first seven innings. The Coyotes took a 2-0 lead into the late frames - as
Johnny Hyland doubled in the first and scored on a wild pitch, while
Kole Lane scored in the fourth ahead of a rundown between first and second base.
The Warriors tied the score in the eighth, as Kody Garvin lined a two-out RBI single and Kasey Bailey followed with a game-tying RBI double. LCSC would win the game in the tenth, loading the bases with one out, with A.J. Davis lifting a sacrifice fly to plate the winning run.
Hyland went 2-for-5 for the Yotes, with Boyd going eight innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven in the no-decision. Bailey was 3-for-5 for L-C, with Efrain del Rio tossing five scoreless innings of relief, fanning nine.
C of I returns home next weekend, hosting Corban in a four-game series.
