LA GRANDE, Ore. –
Madison Holly scored a season-high 19 points, jump-starting a College of Idaho offense that scored 50 second half points, as the Lady Yotes snapped a four-game losing streak with a 77-67 victory over Lewis & Clark College at the Coach Mike Memorial Tournament.
The Lady Yotes (2-6) made 20-of-35 shots after the intermission and used a sizable 46-25 rebound edge in the neutral court victory – improving to 4-0 all-time against the Pioneers. It marked the first time since the 2016-17 season that C of I had scored 50 points in a half.
The Division III Pioneers (2-6) pulled even at 59-59 on a Delsie Johnson jumper early in the fourth quarter – but Holly spearheaded an 8-point run by the Yotes – converting back-to-back buckets to make it 63-59.
Mackenzie Royce followed with a driving lay-up and
Makenna Schritter drained a mid-range jumper to extend the lead to 67-59 with three minutes remaining – a margin that would not fall below six points the rest of the way.
Holly splashed consecutive 3-pointers early in the first quarter to erase a 4-0 L&C lead and added a late basket in the second quarter to give C of I a 26-24 edge at the break. The Pios took their final lead of the game at 27-26 on a third quarter Alyx Crager 3-pointer, but Holly answered with a triple of her own – as the Yotes did not trail the rest of the night.
Holly made 7-of-10 field goals, including four 3-pointers, in the win, adding five rebounds.
Alyssa Case had 17 points and seven boards,
Emily Harwood recorded 13 points and seven rebounds with Royce scoring seven, with five assists and four steals.
Crager led L&C with a game-high 30 points, with Johnson adding 16 – but the Pioneers were forced into 21 turnovers that resulted in 22 C of I points.
The Lady Yotes return to action next Saturday and Sunday – traveling the Corban and Northwest Christian – with both games starting at 2 p.m. (PT)
