PHOENIX, Ariz. –
Taylor Eakle hit two home runs on the day, including a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning of Game 1, leading the College of Idaho to a doubleheader sweep of Arizona Christian at Rose Moffitt Complex.
The Lady Yotes (6-2) closed out their trip to Arizona by pounding out 21 hits on the day – including a 5-for-7, three RBI day from Micah Fortune, and a 4-for-7 day for
Jordan Maddox, including her team-leading third home run of the season.
Trailing 7-6 in the seventh, C of I loaded the bases on singles from
Kylie Smith and Maddox, along with a walk to
Lacie Miller. Eakle followed with a long homer to center to give the Yotes the lead. Reliever
Haylie Hudson got the final six outs to pick up her first career win.
ACU (0-2) plated an unearned run in the second, but a Maddox RBI single in the third got the Yotes even. An RBI triple from Bridget Kruck and an RBI double from Paige Church in the bottom of the frame, gave the Firestorm a 3-1 lead – before C of I batted around for five in the fourth. Fortune had a two-run single, Smith had a two-run double and
Courtney Ellis had an RBI single in the rally.
The hosts regained the lead with a run in the fifth and three unearned runs in the sixth – before the big C of I rally.
Maddox and Fortune had three hits, with Smith adding two for C of I.
C of I never trailed in Game 2, as
Colette Robert improved to 4-0 on the season, tossing a five-hitter, striking out seven.
A leadoff solo homer from Eakle and a Fortune RBI single in the second game the Yotes the lead. After ACU scored an unearned run in the fifth, C of I got back-to-back bombs from Maddox and
Delaney Atkins, along with a two-run double from
Bentli Corta in a four-run sixth to break the game open.
Fortune was the lone player for either team with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.
The Lady Yotes have two weekends off, returning to the diamond on Feb. 17-18, hosting Willamette.
