Lady Yote Forwards Pace 70-52 Win Over Walla Walla

CALDWELL, Idaho – Career afternoons by all three College of Idaho forwards helped the Lady Yotes open a two-game weekend set with Walla Walla with a win, a wire-to-wire 70-52 victory inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Jocelyn Cook-Cox had the second double-double of the year by a C of I player, scoring 20 points with 11 rebounds, while Lindy Westendorf added 12 points and eight boards – as the Lady Yotes (5-14, 5-8 CCC) won for the fourth time in six outings.

The hosts bolted to an 11-2 lead in the first four minutes – as lay-ups by Cook-Cox and Madison Holly started the run, with a triple and a lay-up from Alyssa Case capping the start. The lead would reach 38-15 on Sophia Jackson 3-ball, before the Wolves (3-15, 1-12) would get consecutive Carolina Montes triples in an 8-0 to close the half.

WWU was within 45-28 midway through the third quarter – before Holly splashed a trey and Cook-Cox connected on consecutive inside buckets in a 9-1 run that gave the Yotes their largest lead of the night at 54-29.

Cook Cox made 7-of-10 field goals in the victory, with Westendorf making 4-of-6 from the floor and adding four assists and three steals.  Holly and Case each scored 10 for the Yotes, with freshman forward Kiersten Rasmussen scoring a career-high seven points in the victory.  C of I held a 40-31 edge on the glass – including 13 offensive rebounds – and forced 20 turnovers.

Alyssa Blankenship scored 19 points in the loss for WWU, with Montes scoring all 11 of her points in the first half and Michaela Garcia scoring 10.

The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow night with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
