CALDWELL, Idaho –
Madison Holly scored a career-high 21 points, leading the College of Idaho to their fifth win in seven outings, a 63-41 victory over Walla Walla University inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Lady Yotes (6-14, 6-8 CCC) pulled into a tie with Warner Pacific for sixth-place in the league standings with the win, riding a huge third quarter run for the weekend sweep.
C of I led 32-19 at the break, but broke the game wide open after halftime – hitting 11-of-16 field goal attempts in the period, including five 3-point buckets – outscoring the Wolves (3-16, 1-13) 27-9. After Alyssa Blankenship scored the first points of the quarter for WWU, the Yotes scored 19 of the next 22 points. Holly had a trio of lay-ups and a 3-pointer,
Sophia Jackson drained two treys, and
Alyssa Case scored two buckets to blow the game wide open.
Holly jumpstarted the Yotes in the opening frame, hitting four 3-pointers – including consecutive treys to close the quarter, as C of I led 23-8. The Wolves would cut the margin to single-digits – thanks to two Carolina Montes lay-ups and a Raegan Williams runner, getting within 26-17. The Yotes answered with a Jackson triple and a pair of
Jocelyn Cook-Cox lay-ins to stretch the lead to 13 at the intermission.
Jackson tied a career-high with 13 points, while Cook-Cox recorded her second straight double-double, scoring 10 points with a season-high 12 rebounds. The Yotes hit 11 3-pointers in the win, their highest total of 2017-18, while holding the Wolves to 24-percent shooting from the field.
Sarah Halverson led WWU with 14 points, making 10-of-12 free throws, with Blankenship scoring 10. The Wolves made just 1-of-14 3-point tries in the loss.
C of I closes out a five-game homestand next weekend with games vs. Evergreen and Northwest.
