REDDING, Calif. –
Carter Perry recorded the College of Idaho's first hat trick in three seasons, as the Coyote offense exploded in a 5-1 victory over Simpson University at the SU Soccer Field.
The Yotes (2-1) used a lopsided 26-5 edge in total shots, including a 14-2 edge in shots on frame, to dominate the Redhawks.
Perry wasted no time getting C of I an early lead, getting a breakaway goal in the fifth minute to stake C of I to the advantage. C of I pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute, as
Bekir Cinac played a perfect ball to the feet of
Xander Escobedo, with the freshman converting his first collegiate goal.
Lucas Schlake set up Perry for his second goal, a great through-ball in the 30th minute, while the junior scored an unassisted goal just 20 minutes into the second half to become the first C of I player with three goals in a game since Joe Bolin accomplished the feat in 2015 vs. Sierra Nevada.
The Yotes closed the scoring in the 79th minute, as Escobedo found fellow freshman
Jacob Hurter for his first collegiate goal.
The Redhawks (0-3) scored their only tally in the 31st minute on a Tayler Sherman unassisted goal.
Grant Billings made just one save in his 75 minutes of work between the pipes.
C of I returns to action on Sunday, closing out non-conference play with a date against Sierra Nevada at 1 p.m. (PT)
