ASHLAND, Ore. –
Jaden Carson scored six goals and
Jason Leach added a career-high five scores, as College of Idaho won their seventh game in a row, upsetting No. 22 ranked Southern Oregon, 16-7, at Raider Stadium.
The Yotes (7-0, 2-0 PNCLL South) never trailed in the victory, jumping out to a 5-1 first quarter lead and scored the final five goals of the match. The nine goal differential was the largest in program history against the Raiders – the defending PNCLL champs.
Goals by Carson and
Nich Guzzetti in the first two minutes of the game staked C of I to the early lead, with back-to-back Leach markers extending the margin to 5-1 at the 5:59 mark. The Raiders (5-3, 1-1), clawed back, getting scores from Hayden Hupfer and Spencer Pregal, to cut the deficit to 6-4 midway through the second quarter. However, Carson scored twice, with Leach and
Dillon Green adding goals, to extend the C of I lead to 10-4 at the break.
SOU pulled within 11-7 on an Ari Feldman goal with six minutes left in the third quarter, but
V.J. Dahm stymied the Raiders the rest of the way, making 17 of his 24 saves in the second half, to keep the hosts off the board. Green put the match away with three late goals, teaming with Guzzetti for the final score of the night.
C of I closes out their road schedule two weeks from today with a match-up at the University of Portland, before ending the regular-season with three-straight home matches.
