Mansanarez Drives in Six in Sweep of Oregon Tech

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Pounding out 25 hits on the day, the College of Idaho swept a doubleheader from rival Oregon Tech, 6-2 and 14-1, at Roy Helser Field.

Cole Mansanarez went a combined 6-for-8 with a home run and six RBI in the two games, while four C of I (4-2) pitchers combined for 24 strikeouts on the day.

With the wins, skipper Shawn Humberger tied his mentor, Tim Mooney, for the most wins in program history with 527. The two coaches have more wins than any other C of I coach in any sport in school history.

GAME 1 (C of I 6, OIT 2) – Mansanarez broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single, with the Coyotes using the strikeout to top the Owls (2-4).

Tech took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an Alexis Paz RBI single, with the lead holding until the fourth, when Johnny Hyland came through with a two-run single to give the Yotes the lead. Back to back doubles from Naz Thibodeaux and D.J. Harryman tied the score in the bottom of the frame, before Mansanarez delivered his RBI single and Devon Pogue added a run scoring hit to give C of I the 4-2 lead.

Jake Eddy did the rest, retiring all 12 batters in relief – including eight strikeouts – to earn a save. Starter Zach Draper fanned nine men in five innings, working around four hits, to earn the win.

Mansanarez was 3-for-4 with an RBI; Dominic Conigliaro and Pogue each had two hits; with Hunter Hanson hitting a solo home run in the ninth for C of I. Four OIT batters had one hit in the loss, with starter Adam Kandra allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings of work.

GAME 2 (C of I 14, OIT 1) – The Yotes scored in seven of the nine innings and pounded out six extra base hits in the victory.

Leading 7-1 after six innings, the Yotes broke the game wide open late.  Back-to-back doubles from Hanson and Mansanarez added to lead and following a Colton Witsman infield single, Bobby Wright tripled home the pair.  An inning later, Mansanarez blasted a three-run home run to cap the Coyote scoring.

Hanson finished 3-for-3 with five runs scored; Mansanarez had three more hits and five RBI; while Wright logged two doubles and a triple.

Starter Anthony Martine picked up his second win of the season, allowing just four hits in six innings. Drew Klassen recorded a three-inning save, striking out three men.

Louis Wolf had OIT's only multi-hit game of the day, going 2-for-4.

The two teams close out the series tomorrow morning with an 11 a.m. twinbill.
