OLYMPIA, Wash. – Despite a 3-1 loss this afternoon to the Evergreen State College in the regular-season finale at Capital High School, the College of Idaho punched their ticket to the Cascade Conference Championships, their third postseason berth in the last four seasons.
The Coyotes (9-8, 6-7 CCC) finished with 18 points in the CCC table – getting help when both Eastern Oregon and Carroll lost today in their final game of the year – clinching C of I the No. 8 seed. The Purple and Gold will meet regular-season champion and No. 1 seed Southern Oregon on Friday at 2 p.m. in Springfield, Ore., in the league quarterfinals.
A flurry of three goals in the first 17 minutes started the day – as the Geoducks (7-3-5, 6-3-4) struck in the fourth minute, as Tino Pantaleon played a cross into the middle of the box that Sasa Yodkerepauprai headed home for the early lead. C of I answered five minutes later when
Bekir Cinac found
Carter Perry unmarked in the box, with the senior slotting home his team-high tenth goal of the season.
ESC took the lead for good in the 17th minute, as Angel Trejo-Delgado flicked home a Pantaleon corner kick and added an insurance goal early in the second half and Pantaleon drove home a 25-yard free kick.
The hosts had a 13-8 shot advantage and recorded five of the six corner kicks in the match – with ESC winning despite only logging four shots on frame.
