SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Zac Hansen headed home the game-winner just 44 seconds into overtime, as top-seed Southern Oregon survived an upset bid from the College of Idaho, winning 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank at Les Schwab Sports Park.
After a second half downpour slowed the pace of play, the Raiders (12-6-1) worked a ball down the left side of the pitch in the opening minute of the extra session, with Esteban Castaneda playing a cross into the area, with Hansen heading home a goal into the top left corner of the net.
SOU had an 18-7 edge in total shots – but C of I keeper
Grant Billings made five saves in regulation, including punching a Paul Matyas free kick from the top of the 18-yard-box over the cross bar in the 74th minute.
The Yotes had their best chance in the 78th minute, getting a pair of corner kick opportunities that were turned away by the Raiders defense. C of I failed to put a shot on frame in the contest.
