EUGENE, Ore. – A pair of unassisted goals were the difference for Northwest Christian, as the Beacons held College of Idaho without a shot on frame in a 2-0 victory at Mike Kelly Field.
The Coyotes (7-5, 4-4 CCC) held a 10-9 edge in total shots, had three corner kick chances and saw NCU commit 27 fouls, but could not get a strike on frame.
The field of play widened in the 26th minute – as both C of I and the Beacons (4-5-2, 4-2-2) had a player sent off due to a red card.
NCU made the most of the 10-on-10 situation – as in the 38th minute Tito Gomez collected a loose ball in a scrum in the middle of the penalty area and hit a low shot under the arms of C of I keeper
Grant Billings for a 1-0 lead.
The hosts would add to the lead at the end of the 62nd minute, as a foul in the penalty box game Olisa Obianozie a chance from the spot – which he converted to cap the scoring.
The Yote defense was solid – limiting NCU to just four total shots on goal.
C of I returns to action, traveling tomorrow to Corban for a 4:30 p.m. (PT) match-up.
