Pitching Leads LC-State to Doubleheader Sweep of Yotes

LEWISTON, Idaho - Lewis-Clark State pitchers combined to hold the College of Idaho to eight hits on the day, as the No. 2 ranked Warriors swept a doubleheader from the Coyotes at Harris Field.

LCSC (33-5, 19-3) took the opener, 11-1, before blanking C of I, 10-0, in the late contest.

The Warriors took advantage of four errors, seven walks and three hit by pitches in the opener - scoring the final 11 runs of the game.

Cole Mansanarez gave the Coyotes (27-13, 15-8) a 1-0 lead in the first inning with his fourth homer of the season, but LCSC tied the game on a Tyler McDowell RBI double in the second, and then scoring five unearned runs in the third - thanks to an untimely two-out error - to lead 6-1.

It was more than enough for reliever Henry McAree, who allowed just two hits in five innings to pick up his sixth win. LC hit three homers in the win, as McDowell, Jacob Zanon and J.J. Robinson all hit long balls.

Game 2 was dominated by Quin Grogan, as the Warriors starter tossed a complete game three-hitter, striking out seven - as Mansanarez recorded two of C of I's hits.

LCSC batted around in the opening frame, scoring seven times - including a two-run double from Gunnar Buhner and an RBI double from Cooper Goldby.

The series finale is set for tomorrow at Noon.
