Coyotes Lose Overtime Thriller to Southern Oregon, 9-8

V.J. Dahm making a key save today vs. Southern Oregon
CALDWELL, Idaho – Spencer Pregal scored four goals, including the game-winner 56 seconds into overtime, as Southern Oregon rallied late for a 9-8 victory over the College of Idaho at Symms Field.

The Raiders (9-2, 2-0 PNCLL South) rallied with three goals in the final seven minutes – including an Ari Feldman strike with just five seconds left in regulation to force extra time.

SOU, the top defensive team in the Northwest, surged to a 4-1 lead midway through the second period on a Pregal score.  However, the Yotes (6-2, 1-1) clamped down defensively, holding the Raiders without a goal for the ensuing 24 minutes.

Nich Guzzetti started the rally for C of I with a goal off the ensuing face off, with Dillon Green scoring back-to-back goals in a one minute stretch – one on a 1-on-3 move and another collecting a ground ball just outside the goal box and burying home the marker to even the score at the break.

The Yotes dominated the third period, as an early Green goal gave C of I their first lead, with Ian Williams making it 6-4 on a strike off a Green pass during a man-advantage.

Green scored his fourth goal of the day with just over 12 minutes to play to give the Yotes an 8-5 lead – but Southern battled back, getting goals from Feldman and Pregal to pull within a score with six minutes to play.

After C of I whittled the clock inside of 40 seconds, SOU had one final chance and took advantage of a two-minute non-releasable penalty on the Yotes with 12 seconds left – as Feldman buried the equalizer and following an early turnover in the extra period, found Pregal for the winner.

Both goalies were outstanding on the day, as V.J. Dahm recorded 14 stops for C of I, with Connor Kelly making 12 saves for SOU.

C of I closes out the regular-season with road games next weekend at Western Oregon and Portland State.
