BEND, Ore. – Former College of Idaho national champion runner Sora Klopfenstein finished eighth overall at the USATF Cross Country National Championships at River's Edge Golf Course.
The 2014 C of I grad traversed the extremely hilly 10-kilometer circuit in a time of 38:57 – one of 14 runners in the field to break the 40-minute mark.
Klopfenstein is in position for a spot on Team USA for the APA Pan American Cross Country Championships to be held in Venezuela in March.
"I saw Sora run so many big time championship races in a C of I uniform, but her race in Bend today was as good as any she's ever put together," said C of I head coach Pat McCurry. "Her technical execution on the course as unparalleled in the field and her resolve was awe inspiring."
As a Coyote, Klopfenstein won two NAIA national titles (2013 Distance Medley Relay, 2013 3,000-meter steeplechase) and was a nine-time NAIA All-American.
