CALDWELL, Idaho –
Hunter Hanson went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and
Devon Pogue drove in three runs, as the College of Idaho completed a four-game sweep of Minot State, winning the series finale, 10-2, at Wolfe Field.
Box Score The Yotes (8-0) ran their win streak to eight games – equaling the 2006 team for the second longest win streak to start a season. The 1958 Northwest Conference champion C of I team began the season 13-0.
C of I sent 11 men to the plate in a 6-run seventh inning to break open a close game, as the Yotes scored 10 runs for the fourth-straight game and the sixth time in eight games this season.
Cole Mansanerez got the Yotes on the board in the third inning, golfing a two-run double off the wall in left-center – scoring on a Pogue sacrifice fly. Two innings later, Hanson singled, moved to second on a ground out, stole third and scored on a Pogue RBI ground out to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Beavers broke through in the sixth as Taylor Williamson lined an RBI double just inside the left field line, but C of I reliever
Jake Eddy followed with three straight strikeouts to end the threat.
An inning later, the Coyotes broke the game wide open, as eight-straight players reached base with two outs.
Mitch Skaggs started the onslaught with an RBI double off the wall in center and scored on a Pogue single;
Dalton Ridgway singled home a pair, with a third run scoring on an MSU error; with
Jake Bowman capping the frame with an RBI single.
Eddy got the win, tossing five innings of relief, allowing an earned run and striking out five. Ridgway got the start, allowing three hits with two strikeouts in four scoreless frames. Bowman was 3-for-4, with Skaggs going 2-for-2 with two walks in the win.
Conner Oliver led MSU at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a run scored. Starter Austin Berntson allowed five runs on eight hits in six-plus innings in a losing effort.
C of I returns to action next weekend, hosting the University of Puget Sound in a three game series.
