Late Rally Comes Up Short For Yotes vs. Northwest Christian

CALDWELL, Idaho – A frantic late College of Idaho rally came up one goal short, as the Coyotes dropped a 4-3 decision to Northwest Christian to cap Homecoming Weekend at Simplot Stadium.

Two goals from both Blake Doran and Angel Sandoval staked the Beacons (6-4-2, 2-3-2 CCC) to a 4-1 lead with less than five minutes remaining.

However, C of I (3-7, 2-5) did not fold.  Carter Perry scored his second goal of the match, heading home a Cole Fuller corner kick with three minutes left, to cut into the deficit.  In the waning seconds, Sid Rayne touched home an indirect free kick to make it a one-goal game, but the Yotes ran out of time.

The visitors took a 1-0 lead just before halftime, as Doran collected a failed clearance by the C of I defense and slammed a 10-yard shot into the right corner of the net.

The Yotes erased the lead in the 54th minute, as Darion Green played a ball to Fuller on the end line right of the goal, crossing a pass across the goal mouth to the waiting foot of Perry, who slotted home the tying goal.

NCU answered in a big way – as Ian Hawksford played a long through-ball to Doran, who stayed onside just long enough to get a clean 1-on-1 run, lacing a shot into the right corner of the net.  Sandoval added to the lead in the 66th minute, flicking home a cross from Olisa Obianozie, while in the 86th minute he looped a 20 yard shot over Yotes keeper Grant Billings from the left corner of the field – just under the crossbar for a 4-1 lead.

The Beacons held an 18-10 edge in total shots, though C of I had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.  The physical match featured 29 fouls and seven cautions between the two sides.

C of I returns to action next Friday at Warner Pacific.
