PORTLAND, Ore. - Goals from
Cole Fuller,
Carter Perry and
Joao Cardoso staked the College of Idaho to a three goal lead, with the Yotes withstanding a pair of late Warner Pacific penalty kicks to break a four match losing streak with a 3-2 victory at Damazo Field.
The win for the Yotes (4-7, 3-5 CCC) jumpstarted their quest for a postseason berth by picking up their third-straight conference road victory.
Fuller got the Coyotes a quick first half lead, taking a Cardoso through-ball in the sixth minute and slotting home a low shot past Knights (3-7-2, 2-5-2) keeper Erdal Barkay.
C of I would add to the lead with back-to-back goals midway through the second half - as in the 62nd minute, Perry took a Cardoso through-ball and ripped a shot inside the left post for the score. Â Five minutes later,
Mehmed Selimovic played a long ball down the right flank to Cardoso, who got in the scoring act, looping in a 10-yard shot.
The Yotes would withstand a late WP rally, as fouls in the box in the 73rd and 80th minute resulted in penalty kick goals from Johannes Reiber and Junior Cordon. Â However,
Grant Billings turned away two late shots to complete the victory.
The Knights held a 14-10 in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks, with the two teams combining for 33 fouls.
C of I returns to action tomorrow with a 3:30 p.m. (PDT) kickoff at Eastern Oregon.
