PHOENIX, Ariz. – College of Idaho rode stellar pitching for a third-straight day, taking both ends of a doubleheader to complete a four-game sweep of Arizona Christian at Firestorm Field.

A four-run second inning staked C of I to a big early lead, as
Sam Grise opening the scoring with a squeeze bunt;
Jake Guza scored on a wild pitch; and
Hunter Hanson smashed a two-run homer.
ACU (0-4) pulled even after scoring a run in the third, taking advantage of a C of I error in the fourth to plate two runs, and a Tate Erickson fifth inning RBI single to make it 4-4.
Cole Mansanerez broke the tie in the sixth with a two-out RBI double, with the Yotes scoring three times in the sixth – thanks to a
Devon Pogue sacrifice fly, a
Zach Cooper RBI triple and a Grise RBI single – and adding three more runs in the eighth.
Jake Eddy allowed just two earned runs and fanned four in four innings in his C of I debut, with
Dalton Ridgway tossing three-plus innings of three-hit relief to earn the win.
Jake Hennessey was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Grise added two hits for the Yotes.
Kaleb Price dominated Game 2, tossing five innings of five-hit relief, fanning three, to earn the victory for C of I.
A two-run top of the first was all the Yotes would need, as Mansanerez singled home Hanson, who roped a one-out double, with Mansanerez eventually scoring on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
After Erickson tripled and scored in the third to pull ACU within 2-1, Hennessey singled in the fourth and moved to third on a two-base error, scoring on a
Johnny Hyland sacrifice fly.
Price did the rest, stranding runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh to close out the win.
Four Coyotes had one hit in the victory, with Erickson going 2-for-3 for the Firestorm.
C of I opens up their home schedule next weekend, hosting Minot State in a four-game weekend series at Wolfe Field.
