CALDWELL, Idaho – Joao Cardoso and Mehmed Selimovic each scored a goal and an assist, as the College of Idaho shutout Multnomah University, 4-0, at sunny Simplot Stadium.
The Yotes (5-1, 4-1 CCC) recorded their fourth shutout win of the season, equaling their best start since the 2001 season. C of I dominated the pitch, recording a commanding 39-5 edge in total shots.
After three near-misses in the first 10 minutes of play, Cardoso scored eventual game-winner in the 11th minute, as Selimovic played a ball into the box from the left side, with Joe Bolin touching a pass to the foot of Cardoso, who ripped a ball into the back of the net.
Eight minutes later, Admir Selimovic played a quick pass to his brother Mehmed Selimovic, crushing a line-drive shot into the right corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.
Despite the run of the pitch, C of I was unable to break through against the Lions (0-7, 0-4) defense until the 69th minute, as Cardoso made a nifty cross from left-to-right to the right side of the box, with Miguel Nunez converting his first collegiate goal.
The Yotes capped the scoring late, as Ryan Geist played a through-ball down the middle of the field, finding Zuva Donduro behind the MU defense for his first goal of 2015.
Grant Billings and Lucas MacMillan combined for two saves in the win, with 12 different Coyote players taking at least one shot.
Lions' keeper Manny Guillermo had seven saves and multiple shot blocks lead the MU defense.
C of I hits the road next weekend for matches at Carroll and Great Falls – as the Yotes will play six of their final eight games on the road.
