Yotes Drop Physical Contest to Rocky Mountain

CALDWELL, Idaho – Jack Clancy buried a penalty kick early in the second half as Rocky Mountain College remained unbeaten on the season, stopping the College of Idaho, 2-0, in a physical match-up at Simplot Stadium.

In a game that featured 26 fouls and nine yellow cards, a foul by the Yotes (3-1, 2-1 CCC) on a penetrating Matthew Thomas in the RMC box drew the penalty kick, with Clancy ripping the attempt from the spot into the upper right corner of the net.

The Bears (7-0, 3-0) added an insurance goal in the waning moments as C of I made a push for the tying goal, as Tiago Ewald played a long through-ball on a counter-attack, with Donovan Luce slotting home the counter.

Rocky had two great early chances in the opening half, as a Luce unmarked header in the tenth minute missed high, while an Ewald 1-on-1 attempt against C of I keeper Grant Billings was snuffed out by a diving save.

In the 23rd minute, the RMC defense kept the game scoreless, as a Jorge Brambila header in a scrum was cleared off the goal line by Siem Klok.  Just before the break, the Yotes missed a chance, as a free kick by Mehmed Selimovic clanged off the right post.

C of I had a chance to square the match in the 66th minute, as after a flurry of yellow cards, Admir Selimovic rocketed a 25-yard free kick off the cross bar.  The Yotes had one final quality opportunity in the 83rd minute, as Joe Bolin made a long run down the left side, eluding two defenders, but his flick inside the six-yard box was stopped by Rocky keeper Cole Catlin.

Rocky held a 19-11 edge in total shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.  Catlin made three saves in notching the victory in goal.

Both teams return to action next weekend, hosting Multnomah and Walla Walla.
