CALDWELL, Idaho – Jamiece Yizar scored a second half hat trick, as the College of Idaho rolled to a 4-1 victory over Oregon Tech at Simplot Stadium.
Yizar took over the league lead in goals with nine as the Lady Yotes (6-1, 2-0 CCC) moved to 3-0 at home this season.
C of I dominated the opening half, missing three opportunities in the first 30 minutes – a Reilly Coyle sitter just 90 seconds in that skimmed over the crossbar; a Coyle flick in the 15th minute that was stuffed by OIT (2-3-1, 0-2) keeper Katie Vames; and a long free kick by Hailey Boyd in the 29th minute that forced Vames to make a leaping save.
C of I struck first in the 37th minute, as Hailey Woods played a right-to-left ball just outside the box, finding sister Sydney Woods, who ripped a 25-yard dart past Vames into the top shelf.
The Lady Yotes turned to Yizar to put the game away. The junior headed home short Mallory Cripps cross at the back post in the 49th minute, and then took a Victoria Cerda through-ball at the start of the 57th minute, beating Vames in a 1-on-1 chance to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Owls, who were limited to just one first half shot, found life in the second half, breaking through in the 75th minute. Tori Roberts collected a C of I miscue just outside the box, took two touches and ripped a 20-yard shot into the right corner of the net.
Yizar capped the scoring in the 87th minute as Erika Thompson played a through-ball with Yizar touching the ball past Vames for an easy score.
C of I held a 15-11 edge in total shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Keeper Abagail Castro made five saves in her first start with the Yotes to earn the win.
The Coyotes return to action next Sunday, hosting Rocky Mountain.
