CALDWELL, Idaho - Mehmed Selimovic scored just 101 seconds into the game, as the College of Idaho recorded their third-straight shutout to open the season with a 4-0 victory over Oregon Tech at Simplot Stadium.
The Yotes (3-0, 2-0 CCC) had a commanding 22-7 edge in total shots in recording their first 3-0 start since the 1991 season.
In the second minute, Joe Bolin made a nifty run to the end line, crossing the ball to Joao Cardoso at the top of the six-yard box. Â Cardoso used a backwards heel kick to find Selimovic at the back post, flicking home the opening tally.
Despite controlling the run of play, C of I could not add to their lead until the 59th minute. Â Bolin took a through-ball after a combination from Selimovic and Cardoso and beat Owls (2-4, 0-2) keeper Gerardo Skewes to the bottom right corner of the net.
In the 67th minute, the Coyotes got the dagger, as Cardoso was tackled by an OIT defender in the box - earning a penalty kick and forcing the Owls to go down a man due to a red card for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Â Cardoso buried the penalty kick for a 3-0, with the Yotes adding a late goal by Tyler Sharp, heading home a Kyler Auernhamer corner kick in the 80th minute.
Grant Billings faced just two shots on goal in recording his second shutout of the season.
C of I steps aside from conference play tomorrow morning, hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills in an exhibition game at 11 a.m.
