Yotes Lose Exhibition Game to CSU-Dominguez Hills

Grant Billings making one of nine saves vs. CSU-Dominguez Hills
CALDWELL, Idaho - Playing their lone exhibition game of the 2015 season, the College of Idaho dropped a 2-0 decision to NCAA Division II power Cal State Dominguez Hills at Simplot Stadium.

Box Score

The two-time national champion Toros (4-1) had a commanding 23-2 edge in total shots, including 13 shots on frame - but didn't put the match away until late in the second half.

The Yotes nearly took the lead at the start of the fifth minute, as Joe Bolin played a low cross to the feet of Mehmed Selimovic, who crushed the 15-yard sitter just above the crossbar.

From there, it was all CSUDH, peppering 17 shots at the C of I net in the opening stanza.  Twice, defender Andres Idoeta cleared a ball off the goal line, while keeper Grant Billings made five saves.  The Toros, who had a Joey Chica 15-yard strike clang off the right post in the 17th minute, finally broke through in the 29th minute.  Tony Alfaro roped a free kick from 20 yards out that Billings blocked to his left, with Pedro Velasquez tucking the rebound into the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

C of I had a chance at the equalizer in the 71st minute, but Joao Cardoso missed a 25-yard free kick just high.  The Toros recorded an insurance goal in the 77th minute, as Josh Robinson won a ball in the Coyote third, split a pair of defenders, and beat Billings for the 2-0 lead.

The Coyotes, who sit at 3-0 on the season, return to Cascade Conference play on Sunday, hosting Rocky Mountain at 1:30 p.m.
