First Half Flurry Lifts Yotes to Win in CCC Opener

CALDWELL, Idaho - Joe Bolin scored a pair of first half goals, as the College of Idaho used a big opening 45 minutes to shutout Southern Oregon, 4-0, at Simplot Stadium.

The Coyotes (2-0, 1-0 CCC) won back-to-back games to open a season for the first time since 2004, recording their second-straight shutout to spoil SOU's Cascade Conference debut.

Bolin scored the eventual game-winner less than three minutes into the game, making a 40-yard run down the right side, knifing into the area, and eluding Raiders (5-1, 0-1) keeper Tyler Luebbert for the tap-in goal.

Controlling the pace, C of I made it 2-0 in the 17th minute, as Bolin worked the ball into the left corner of the area, playing a low ball across the top of the six-yard box where fellow senior Andres Idoeta slotted the ball into the open net.

In the 35th minute, Bolin took a pass 30 yards from goal and beat his defender down the left flank.  Faced with a 1-on-1 chance against Luebbert, Bolin tucked a low shot into the right corner of the net for the three-goal lead.

C of I capped the big first half just before the break, as Admir Selimovic rocketed a 30-yard free kick into the upper left corner of the goal.

The Raiders settled in during the second half, but could not crack Yotes keeper Grant Billings, who made four saves in the shutout win - including a diving stop of a Dakota Scott shot in the 64th minute.

Southern held a 12-11 edge in total shots in the physical game that featured 28 fouls and had an 8-7 lead in corner kicks.

The Coyotes return to action on Sunday, hosting Oregon Tech at 2:30 p.m.
