PORTLAND, Ore. - Kyle Garvin struck out a career-high 10 men in a complete game effort, with Matt Hamilton going 2-for-3 including his fourth homer of the season, as the College of Idaho knocked off Corban, 5-1, at the NAIA West Grouping Championships.
The Yotes (32-24), who ended a four-game postseason drought - dating back to 2012 - meet Concordia later today at 5 p.m. (MDT) in the winners' bracket.
After allowing an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, Garvin did not allow a runner to third base the rest of the way, picking up his eighth win of the season.
C of I found their offense in the fifth, stringing together four hits to plate two runs - one on a Seth Champlin RBI double, another on a Sam Grise RBI ground out. Â The Yotes made it 3-1 in the sixth as Jake Hennessey tripled and scored on a Chase Miller single.
Hamilton made it 4-1 in the seventh, leading off the frame with a towering homer to right. Â He would add a second RBI on the day in the ninth, plating Mitch Viydo, who led the inning off with a triple.
Four Coyotes had two-hit games - Miller, Viydo, Hamilton, and Jordan Grubbs - as C of I improved to 2-0 all-time in the playoffs against Corban (24-26).
