KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Cole Mansanerez had five hits and added three RBI, helping the College of Idaho salvage a doubleheader split with Oregon Tech at Kiger Stadium.
The Owls (15-26, 6-14 NAIA West) won the opener, 8-5, before the Coyotes held on for a 12-10 victory in Game 2 – ending a five-game conference losing streak.
OIT took advantage of four errors in the Game 1 victory – including three in the opening three innings – as the Owls built a 5-1 lead. The Yotes (28-18, 10-10) chipped away, plating a pair of runs in the fifth on a Tech throwing error, but made the first and third out of the inning at home plate. C of I added a Mansanerez RBI double and a Troy Carr RBI ground out in the sixth to get within 6-5, but Brian Middleton limited the Yotes to just one hit over the final three innings to earn the save.
Dylan Rogers was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Tyson Dahl hit a home run and scored four runs in the win for OIT.
In the night cap, the Yotes used a seven-run third inning to take a 9-3 lead. Jordan Grubbs had a two-run single, with Mitch Viydo, Seth Champlin, Brady Mooney, and Chase Miller all adding RBI base hits in the rally.
Viydo grinded through seven innings, working around 10 hits – turning over a 12-4 lead to the bullpen. Tech responded, as a Rogers two-run eighth inning double made it 12-6, with the Owls batting around for four in the ninth, before Ethan Schlecht grounded out with the bases loaded to end the game.
Mansanerez was 4-for-5; Miller had three hits; and Grubbs, Champlin, and Mooney all recording two hits and two RBI for the Yotes. Rogers was 2-for-6 with four RBI in the loss for OIT.
C of I closes out their non-conference schedule on Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. match-up at Northwest Nazarene.
