CALDWELL, Idaho - College of Idaho and Corban split the opening doubleheader of the NAIA West Grouping season at Wolfe Field, as the Yotes won the opener 8-7, with the Warriors taking Game 2, 5-2.
The Warriors (11-12, 1-1) built an early 7-1 lead in game one as Vince Coffman had three of his four RBI on the day in the first five innings of the opener.
Jake Hennessey hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to begin the Coyotes (17-8, 1-1) rally.Â
C of I completed the rally and took an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the seventh without recording a hit as Corban walked six batters and plunked two more to let the first game slip away.
The Warriors jumped out to another early lead in game two, scoring five runs in the first three innings, including Coffman's second dinger of the afternoon.
C of I threatened the Warriors lead a couple innings but were never able to get much momentum going, eventually losing the contest and snapping their seven-game win streak.
The Coyotes and Warriors will close out their NAIA West opening series Sunday afternoon with a pair of games getting underway at 11 am.
