TACOMA, Wash. – Austin Mendiola scored five goals in leading the College of Idaho to a 15-9 victory over the University of Puget Sound in the season opener at East Field.
The Yotes (1-0) had three players with three or more goals, while V.J. Dahm was solid in net, recording 16 saves in the road win.
Ian Williams scored three goals and added two assists in the opening half, staking the Yotes to a 9-5 lead at the break.
The Loggers (1-1) were within 11-7 after three quarters, but Mendiola scored back-to-back goals to open the final period as the Coyotes held off the hosts.
Freshman Nick Guzzetti had three goals and three assists in his collegiate debut, with Korey Gambill adding three assists.
C of I concludes the road trip with a 1 p.m. face-off at Central Washington.
