CALDWELL, Idaho – Double-doubles from
Aitor Zubizarreta and
Joey Nebeker paced the College of Idaho to an 87-85 victory over Northwest University, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
Box Score Nebeker had 10 points and Zubizarreta added five in a 29-12 run early in the second half, as the Yotes (9-6, 4-2 CCC) built a 67-52 lead with 11 minutes left. The lead would grow to 78-62 on a
Dominic Hulsey lay-up with eight minutes remaining, but the Eagles (7-10, 3-4) held C of I to just two made field goals the rest of the way – with a 15-2 run cutting the gap to 80-77 on an Zach Smith basket with three minutes to play.
NU had their opportunities, as the Yotes made just 5-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes – but
Marck Coffin intercepted a last gasp pass inside the final three seconds to seal their 23rd-straight conference win at home.
Nebeker had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Zubizarreta added 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win, with C of I holding a 40-35 edge on the glass.
Emanuel Morgan recorded 15 points and five rebounds - his eighth-straight game in double-figures - with Hulsey recording career-highs with seven points and six rebounds.
Ben Tucakovic led NU with 24 points and four of the Eagles 15 made 3-pointers.
The Yotes hit the road next weekend for games at Multnomah and Warner Pacific.
