EUGENE, Ore. – A 25-point effort from
Petra Lumpert wasn't enough for the College of Idaho, as the Lady Yotes fell victim to a hot-shooting Northwest Christian team, as the Beacons earned an 82-62 victory inside Morse Events Center.
Box Score NCU (5-6, 1-2 CCC) never trailed in the game, converting 52-percent of their first half field goals in racing to a 46-38 halftime lead, with Sami Pitts canned four 3-pointers and scoring all of her team-high 14 points in the opening 20 minutes.
C of I (2-7, 1-2) stayed close early, as a
Jaycin Tini lay-up got the Yotes within 8-7, while a Tini 3-pointer and four quick Lumpert points fueled a 10-2 run that erased a 17-7 NCU lead. Pitts took over in the second quarter, canning treys on back-to-back possessions to stake the Beacons to a 36-25 lead.
The Yotes got within 50-43 on a
Kiara Skinner runner early in the third quarter, but NCU's size advantage on the block took over – as a put-back by Demarea Caples, an Andrea Gloss lay-up and a Hanna Mack jumper pushed the lead to 13 points and the hosts were never threatened again.
Niki Duncan scored 13 points and added six rebounds off the bench for NCU, with Gloss adding 12 points and Mack scoring 11. The Beacons held a 30-18 edge in points in the paint and had 15 second-chance points on 15 offensive boards.
Lumpert was 9-of-12 from the field and made all five free throws for the Yotes, adding six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Skinner had 14 points and four rebounds, with C of I making 8-of-16 3-pointers in the loss.
The Lady Yotes return to action tomorrow night, traveling for a 5:30 p.m. (PT) tip-off at Corban University.
