LEWISTON, Idaho -
Petra Lumpert scored a game-high 32 points, but the College of Idaho could not dig themselves out of a slow start, as Montana Western topped the Lady Yotes, 85-67, at the Twin Rivers Therapy Classic.
The junior transfer made 10-of-14 field goal attempts, including all four of her 3-point efforts, scoring the most points by a Lady Yotes (0-1) player since Dayna Drager tallied 36 vs. Concordia during the 2013-14 season.
Western (7-0), however, used a 43-21 edge in rebounds and made 12 3-point baskets to bolt to a 23-point halftime lead and were never threatened. Â Molly Klinker had 30 points in the win, with Ariosel Palmore scoring 19 points with nine rebounds and eight assists.
The Bulldogs used an 11-2 run to end the first quarter, getting a pair of Palmore 3's to grab a 22-10 edge, and then closed the half on a 15-4 run to lead 46-23 at the break. Â Lumpert and
Brittany Wirth each had five points in a 14-4 C of I run early in the third quarter to cut the gap to 50-34, but the Yotes could not get closer.
Wirth had 13 points and five rebounds, with transfer
Jaycin Tini coming off the bench to add nine points and six rebounds in the loss.
The Yotes return to action tomorrow, meeting host Lewis-Clark State at 5 p.m. (PT)
