LA GRANDE, Ore. – A 14-2 run to close the first half broke open a close game, as the College of Idaho opened the 2015-16 season with a 93-66 exhibition win over Langara College at the Aramark Quinn Classic.
Box Score Joey Nebeker led five Coyotes in double-figures with 20 points, with
Dominique Jordan canning four 3-pointers, part of a 16-point night. C of I forced 24 turnovers, with four different players recording three steals in the victory.
The Yotes started slowly from the field – making just one of their first 14 3-pointers – yet still led 30-28 with just over three minutes remaining in the first half. Buckets by
Dominic Hulsey and Nebeker started the flurry, Jordan buried a triple, with he and
Emanuel Morgan each recording a steal and basket, and Jordan canning a 3-ball as the horn sounded to give C of I a 44-30 lead.
A 17-2 run early in the second half put the game away, with Jordan and Nebeker hitting back-to-back 3's in the surge.
Hulsey had a career-high 12 in the victory, with Morgan adding 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Newcomer
Aitor Zubizarreta had 11 points, recording a team-high nine rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Yotes – as no player saw more than 24 minutes of game action.
Langara was led by Drake Downer, who tallied 16 points and five rebounds, with Gary Minhas scoring 13.
C of I opens the regular-season tomorrow with a 3 p.m. (PT) tip-off against the University of Victoria.
