KIRKLAND, Wash. – Jacob Weaver scored a pair of goals and assisted on a third, as Northwest University defeated the College of Idaho, 4-2, on a rainy afternoon at the NU Soccer Field.
Weaver broke a 1-1 stalemate with a strike off a Branson Corwin assist in the 61st minute, as the Eagles (9-7, 7-4 CCC) moved past the Yotes in the Cascade Conference table.
Sloppy field conditions on a wet, windy day limited the opportunities, as the two sides combined for just 14 shots – but 13 were on frame.
Weaver got NU on the board in the 16th minute, knocking home a Ryan Gamache corner kick. The Yotes (7-6, 6-6) answered a minute later, as Mehmed Selimovic played a perfect cross to Joao Cardoso, who roped a shot into the netting.
After Weaver gave the hosts the 2-1 lead, Tyler Ptacek scored what would be the game-winner, driving a Gamache pass in the 68th minute into the net. The Yotes would cut the margin to one goal in the 81st minute after Tyrell Johnson found Ryan Geist in the box, burying his first collegiate goal, but a late counter-attack by Kyle Zimmerman gave the Eagles an insurance goal inside the final two minutes.
NU held a slim 8-6 edge in total shots, with both teams recording four corner kicks.
C of I closes out the regular-season Monday with a neutral site match vs. Great Falls in Hermiston, Ore. – a make-up of an Oct. 3 game that was snowed out. NU hosts Corban and Northwest Christian before both teams head to Eugene, Ore., for the CCC Championships, Nov. 11-14.
