HELENA, Mont. – Jamiece Yizar scored her tenth goal of the season in the third minute, lifting the College of Idaho to their first-ever win at Carroll College, topping the Saints, 1-0, at Nelson Stadium.
Erika Thompson played a cross from the left side into the box that was knocked down by Saints keeper Jamie Carter, but Yizar flicked home the rebound for the lone goal of the match.
The win for the Yotes (7-2, 3-1 CCC) ended a Carroll five-match win streak and knocked the Saints from the ranks of the unbeaten in league play. It was their first win on the road against the Saints in six tries, dating back to 1997.
Carroll (6-3, 4-1) had the run of the pitch for the majority of the match, holding a commanding 14-4 edge in total shots, including nine on frame. However, Brittany Houghton was a rock for the Yotes, making all nine saves, including a huge stop of a Ylena Gadzik blast in the 72nd minute and a stop of a Michaela Kueffler free kick in the waning seconds.
C of I returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Great Falls.
