CALDWELL, Idaho – Kellie Ross buried back-to-back three-pointers in a late 10-0 College of Idaho run, as the Lady Yotes toppled No. 24 ranked Concordia, 58-50, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The second half heroics helped the Lady Yotes (5-10, 4-2 CCC) win their third-straight home game, pulling within a half game of first-place in a tightly-packed Cascade Conference race.
The Cavaliers (7-6, 2-3) erased a 26-21 halftime deficit, building a trio of three-point leads – the last at 43-40 after back-to-back McKenna Daly jumpers. C of I turned the tide in a three minute stretch, as Alicia Jones stuck home a put-back of a missed shot, with Ross grabbing rebounds on consecutive possessions on the defensive end and draining long treys on the opposite end of the floor. A pair of Haylee Burnham freebies extended the margin to 50-43 with four minutes left.
CU made a final charge, getting a long two from Sierra Dean and a Lexi Campbell three to get within 50-48, but the visitors missed three-straight shots in the final two minutes and C of I connected on 6-of-8 free throws to seal the victory.
The Cavaliers used the three-point shot in the first half, as Jordyn Peacock drained two of CU's four triples in the period, taking a 21-16 lead with seven minutes left in the frame. However, the visitors recorded four turnovers and missed their final eight shots of the half, as a pair of Burnham three's ignited a 10-0 C of I run to give the Yotes the five-point halftime edge.
Burnham led all scorers with 20 points, including 8-of-8 shooting from the free throw line. Aleah Lowber and Jones each had nine points and seven rebounds, with Elisha Hensey scoring six points and grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds, and Ross scoring six points with six boards. C of I won despite making just 26-percent of their field goals, but recorded just nine turnovers for the second-straight game.
Sierra Dean led the Cavs with 14 points, with Campbell scoring 12 points and a game-high six assists. CU was held to 29-percent shooting from the field – making 10-of-41 from outside the arc – while 17 turnovers turned into 18 C of I points.
The Lady Yotes return to action on Friday night, hosting rival Eastern Oregon at 5:30 p.m.
