Lady Yotes Big Rally Comes Up Short at Corban

Box Score SALEM, Ore. – College of Idaho rallied from a 23-point first half deficit to pull even in the second half, but Corban University used a late surge to hold off the Lady Yotes, 80-75, inside the C.E. Jeffers Center.

The Warriors (12-8, 6-2 CCC) used a 13-0 run to erase an early 4-0 C of I lead, extending the margin to 38-15 with three minutes remaining in the half.  The Lady Yotes (5-12, 4-4 CCC) responded, opening the second half on a 20-7 run, eventually tying the score at 55-55 on a Jamiece Yizar 3-point play with eight minutes to go.

The hosts battled back, regaining a 77-70 lead inside the final two minutes, but a 3-pointer from Brittany Wirth and an Aleah Lowber basket got C of I within two points with 40 seconds left.  Corban called a pair of timeouts, working the ball into post Tara Van Weerdhuizen for the game-clinching basket, ending a 5-game losing streak to the Yotes.

Julia Young led Corban with 19 points; Haley Holboke had 16 points, including 4-of-6 shooting from outside the arc; and Van Weerdhuizen had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Haylee Burnham tied a career-high with 24 points, with Lowber scoring 14 points with five rebounds, and five steals.  C of I lost despite scoring a season-high 50-point second half and forcing a season-high 27 turnovers, recording 18 steals.

C of I travels to Northwest Christian tomorrow night for a 5:30 p.m. (PT) tip-off.
