KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – For the second time in eight days, the College of Idaho used a dominating performance to compete a home-and-home sweep of Oregon Tech, stopping the Owls 3-0 at Trevor Derrah Field.
The Yotes (5-3, 2-2 CCC) used a pair of first half goals and a stellar performance by freshman keeper Grant Billings to earn three key road points towards the Cascade Conference table.
C of I broke through in the 23rd minute, when Nate Hunt played a ball to the left corner of the box, finding the waiting Luis Gomez, who slotted home his first goal of 2014.
Just 30 seconds later, the Owls (1-7, 0-4) had their best chance, as the Coyotes were whistled for a foul in the box. However, Billings was up to the task, stopping a Colton Grytness penalty kick to keep OIT off the board.
In the 31st minute, the Yotes added to their lead, as John Fronk played a ball behind the OIT defense, with Joe Bolin running onto the ball and beating James Goheen for the 2-0 lead.
The Owls put the pressure on Billings in the second half, but the rookie keeper made four saves preserve the lead. C of I capped the scoring in the 82nd minute, as Riley Smith took advantage of a loose ball in the Tech defensive third and drove a 20-yard shot into the net.
C of I had a 21-14 edge in total shots along with an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
The Yotes continue on a five match road swing next weekend with games at Evergreen and Northwest.
