Late Run Lifts Lady Yotes Over Evergreen

CALDWELL, Idaho – Haylee Burnham scored a career-high 17 points, including the go-ahead runner with 92 seconds remaining, helping the College of Idaho outlast the Evergreen State College, 65-59, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Geoducks (4-2, 0-2 CCC) took a 57-56 lead on a Brittany Gray three-point play with three minutes to go, but the Lady Yotes closed the contest on a 9-2 run to end a four-game losing streak.

The two teams combined for two ties and nine lead changes in the second half – with a Gray lay-up with 1:46 left tying the score at 59-59.  Burnham answered, driving down the left side of the lane, banking home the runner to give C of I the lead.  Evergreen would go 0-for-3 with a turnover on their final four possessions, with the Yotes (2-9, 1-1) connecting on 4-of-4 free throws to seal the win.

Elisha Hensey had 16 points and four steals in the win for C of I, with Alicia Jones scoring 12 and Aleah Lowber scoring 10 points and leading the team with eight rebounds.

The first half was built on runs, as C of I sprinted to a 14-7 lead in the first three-plus minutes, but Evergreen rattled off seven-straight points to tie the game.  The Yotes would follow with a 12-4 run to take their biggest lead of the night on a Burnham three at 26-18, only to watch the Geoducks outscore the hosts 16-6 over the final 10 minutes of the period to lead 34-32 at the half.

Gray led the Geoducks with 25 points, with Sadee Jones scoring 11 points and adding a game-high 14 rebounds.

C of I returns to action on Wednesday, traveling for an exhibition at Boise State.
