KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Elisha Hensey continued her dominance of Oregon Tech, scoring a career-high 27 points, helping the College of Idaho to a 59-56 road victory inside Danny Miles Court.
The senior recorded her fourth-straight 20-point scoring night against the Owls (11-3, 1-2 CCC), including a pair of free throws inside the final 15 seconds to cap the victory. Hensey averaged 21 points in three games against OIT last season, including a game-winning jumper in a C of I 76-74 road victory.
"That is a great win for us," said head coach Mark Owen. "The kids played extremely hard, limiting a very good OIT team to just 4-of-21 shooting from three-point range."
The game featured 14 ties and 17 lead changes – with OIT taking their largest lead of the night at 36-31 on an Ashleigh Vandenbrink three-pointer early in the second half. The Lady Yotes (3-9, 2-1) answered with a 9-2 run – started by a Hensey three, with the guard draining a step-back jumper to give C of I a 40-38 lead.
Tech would not go away, taking a 56-54 lead on a Megan Whetstone jumper inside the final three minutes. C of I countered with an Aleah Lowber triple to take the lead, while the Owls missed seven go-ahead or game-tying shots inside the final 90 seconds.
Lowber had 13 points and Kellie Ross added 12 points off the bench for the Yotes – as C of I connected on 8-of-18 three-point attempts in the victory.
Karly LeVeque and Rebekah Matteri each scored 12 points in the loss for OIT, as the Yotes forced 21 turnovers by the Owls.
C of I returns to action tomorrow night with a 5:30 p.m. (PT) tip-off at No. 15 Southern Oregon.
