SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Kaye Bignell scored 16 points and added 12 rebounds as Montana Western defeated the College of Idaho, 61-47, in the opening game of the Westminster Tipoff Classic inside Behnken Field House.
The Bulldogs (4-1) held the Lady Yotes without a made field goal over the final eight minutes of the first half, turning a 20-17 C of I lead into a 32-23 advantage at halftime.
C of I (0-3) trailed just 39-31 with 16 minutes to play after an Aleah Lowber three-pointer, but Western used a 11-2 run to break the game open.
Jenna Banks and Sierra Higheagle each had 12 points for the Bulldogs, who outscored C of I 17-6 at the foul line.
Haylee Burnham led the Yotes with 12 points, with Lowber adding 11 and Alicia Jones scored 10, as C of I made just 32-percent of their field goal attempts in the contest.
The Yotes close out tournament play tomorrow morning against No. 4 ranked Westminster.
