Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – Josh Wilson recorded his second consecutive double-double as the College of Idaho knocked off crosstown rival Northwest Nazarene, 78-75, in the final chapter of the 2014 United Heritage Mayors' Cup inside the Johnson Sports Center.
Wilson scored all 19 points of his points in the second half and added 10 rebounds, canning a pair of free-throwswith seven seconds remaining to give the No. 7 ranked Coyotes (10-0) a four-point lead.
The Yotes entered the second-half with a deficit for just the third time this season and were facing an eight-point hole after Erik Kenney slammed home the Crusaders (1-4) first possession of the final stanza.
A quick 8-0 run, capped by a pair of Demetrius Perkins free-throws, cut the deficit to 42-40 with just under 18-minutes remaining.
Trailing 52-45 with 15:54 left, the Coyotes went on a 22-2 run to grab a 67-54 lead with just under eight-minutes to play.
The Crusaders would come storming back and grabbed a 71-69 lead with 89 seconds remaining on a Kinney layup.
Marko Kovacevic tied the game on the next Coyote possession and C of I would grab the lead for good after Wilson canned two of his five made free-throws in the final minute.
NNU had a chance for the tie at the buzzer but the 75-foot attempt was not successful, handing the Coyotes their fourth straight win against the Crusaders and continuing the perfect start to the 2014-15 season.
Three other Coyotes joined Wilson in double-figures on the night; Perkins had 14 points on 3-of-8 shooting, including 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. Sydney Donaldson scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 35-minutes of play. Joey Nebeker played just 10 minutes because of foul trouble, but scored 14-points on 5-of-6 shooting, including three triples.
C of I got 16 key minutes off the bench from Dominic Hulsey who stepped in for the injured Joe Vaz and Kovacevic/Nebeker when they got in foul trouble. Despite playing an average of 4.8 minutes per game, Hulsey provided some crucial plays, including four offensive rebounds and three blocked shots.
The undefeated Coyotes next head to California for a pair of tough match-ups, meeting the defending NAIA Division I national champions and top-ranked Vanguard University on Friday at 2 p.m. (PT)
