KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Zach Peterson scored a season-high 17 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer midway through the second half, leading The College of Idaho past Oregon Tech, 79-65, at Danny Miles Court.
The victory for the No. 14 ranked Coyotes (18-5, 9-2 CCC) was their fifth-straight and helped the team sweep the long road trip to Southern Oregon and OIT for the first time since the 2002-03 season. The win also spoiled the first chance for OIT legendary head coach, Danny Miles, to win his 1,000th career game.
The Owls (12-11, 5-6) used a 7-0 second half run, capped by a long Duncan Schramm three, to take a 48-44 lead with 15 minutes remaining. The Yotes clamped down defensively, holding Tech to 0-of-9 shooting and two turnovers in the next five minutes – using a 14-2 run to take control. Peterson canned a three-pointer to give C of I the lead for good, with a Ben Van Lith three-point play extending the margin to 56-50. The visitors put the game away with a late eight-point run to stun the near-capacity crowd.
Tech controlled the early part of the game, stopping C of I on six-straight possessions, grabbing a 16-8 lead after a Brandon Bautista jumper. The Yotes answered quickly, as Peterson hit back-to-back three's, part of a 16-4 run – helping the Coyotes to a 36-34 lead at the break.
C of I made 10-of-24 three-pointers on the night, with Peterson connecting on 4-of-6. Taylor Pruett recorded his second-straight double-double, scoring 15 points and adding 10 rebounds, with Jordan O'Byrne, Sydney Donaldson, and Antonio Garrett each scoring nine.
Schramm led OIT with 20 points and Bautista scored 12, but Tech was limited to just 32-percent shooting from the field and 8-of-30 from outside the arc. Leading scorer, Kyle Waits was held to six points and seven rebounds.
The Yotes return home to face streaking No. 24 Concordia on Friday night – as the Cavs have won nine-straight, including a 91-85 victory over C of I on Jan. 4.
