TACOMA, Wash. - The College of Idaho lacrosse team opened up the 2013 Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League season with a 13-11 victory over the University of Puget Sound at East Athletic Field.
Playing under the lights, the Yotes (1-0) dominated the first half, storming out to an 8-3 halftime lead, thanks to four goals from Austin Mendiola. However, the Loggers (0-3) got three quick second half goals from Dan Leininger to get within 10-9, before two goals from Patrick Erstad and a pair of key saves from Ryan Gibson allowed C of I to earn the road win.
Mendiola and Erstad each had five goals and one assist in the victory, with Gibson recording 16 saves for the Yotes. Leininger had four goals for UPS, with David Mucklow leading the Loggers with 12 saves.
The C of I closes out their road trip tomorrow with a match at Pacific Lutheran.
